The popularity of live cinema broadcasts of concerts and operas seems set to grow as another of the world's top orchestras announces a big screen performance.

The Vienna Philharmonic, under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, will join the Berlin Philharmonic and New York's Metropolitan Opera in bringing classical music to cinemas, when its closing gala concert from the Lucerne Festival is beamed in high definition across the UK and Europe

Audiences in the Odeon in Covent Garden, the Swan Cinema in Ireland and nine Showcase cinemas in England and Scotland will be able to watch the concert from the KKL Luzern concert hall, along with viewers in Germany, Austria and Norway, among other countries.

Rossini's Overture to La Gazza Ladra opens the concert, which ends with Ravel's Bolero, and also includes Julian Orbon's Tres Versions Sinfonicas and Bernstein's Divertimento for Orchestra.

The closing concert will be broadcast on Saturday 18 September, 5.30pm.
