The Metropolitan Opera’s production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle is to be shown in cinemas in the UK over two weekends this summer.
Robert Lepage’s staging of the epic opera cycle was originally screened in cinemas around the world between October 2010 and February 2012 live from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. This summer the four operas that make up the cycle will be screened in full over two weekends with one being broadcast each evening on 30 June & 1 July and the following weekend, 7 & 8 July. It is the first time the Cycle has been broadcast in full in cinemas.
The production stars baritone Bryn Terfel as Wotan, soprano Deborah Voigt as Brünnhilde, tenor Jonas Kaufmann as Siegmund and Jay Hunter Morris as Siegfried. The first two operas – Das Rheingold and Die Walküre – are conducted by James Levine, the second two – Siegfried and Götterdämmerung – by Fabio Luisi.
A full list of cinemas screening the operas can be found on The Met’s website.
