Jeremy Thurlow recommends recordings of Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony
Jeremy Thurlow recommends his personal favourite recordings of Messiaen's mythical masterpiece, the Turangalîla Symphony. At the time of writing the piece, between 1946-1948, Messaien was intrigued by the myth of Tristan and Isolde – this is the central work in the trilogy based on the Romantic themes of love and death alongside Harawi for piano with soprano, and the choral work Cinq rechants.
