Edinburgh International Festival: Orchestre des Champs-Elysées

The Orchestre des Champs-Elysées is devoted to mid-18th-20th century repertoire and performs on instruments of the period.  In this concert they showcase the spiritual works of two masters of the 19th century symphonic genre; those of Brahms and Bruckner. Philippe Herreweghe conducts the orchestra and the Collegium Vocale Gent in Brahms’s Gesang der Parzen (Song of the Fates) and Bruckner’s monumental Te Deum. Hanna-Elisabeth Müller (soprano), Okka von der Damerau (alto), Maximilian Schmitt (tenor), and Tareq Nazmi (bass), are soloists. The concert concludes with Bruckner’s crowning achievement: the ninth symphony in D minor, here in its three-movement version.
