Pianist Igor Levit signs up with Sony Classical

BBC New Generation Artist gets recording deal with major label

Igor LevitSony Classical has signed an exclusive long-term recording deal with the 25-year-old German-Russian pianist Igor Levit. His first recording for the label, to be released in autumn 2013, will feature solo works by Beethoven.

A current BBC New Generation Artist and 2012/2013 European Concert Hall Association Rising Star, Levit has performed with a host of world-class talent, including the London Philharmonic under Vladimir Jurowski, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer. His many notable chamber music collaborations have included violinist Lisa Batiashvili and the Capuçon brothers.

Levit began playing piano at the age of three. And when he graduated at Hannover’s Hochscule für Musik he achieved the highest grades in the history of the college. He took four prizes at the 2005 International Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition and won the first prize at the International Hamamatsu Piano Academy Competition in Japan.

Forthcoming concerts include debuts with the WDR Symphony Orchestra and Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. He will be appearing at London’s Wigmore Hall, Berlin’s Philharmonie, Zurich’s Tonhalle, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Vienna’s Musikverein. In 2013 he will take up the position as artist in residence at the Heidelberger Frühling.
