Aled Jones presents a new work by John Surman commissioned by the BBC and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

‘Lifelines’ – performed at the London Jazz Festival by Surman on various saxophones, Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir and Howard Moody on piano and organ – is a commentary on our relationship with the natural world.

The piece reflects on the Thornhill Colliery disaster of 1947 and the RNLI’s biggest ever mission that saved 523 lives off the Cornish Coast, to highlight how invaluable resources can so easily threaten human life. Click here for more information.
