BBC launches vote for the greatest film soundtrack of all time

The BBC has invited audiences to vote for their favourite film soundtrack of all time as part of its Sound Of Cinema season.

The poll marks the beginning of the Sound of Cinema season, which celebrates the composers, performers and film scores that have been bringing film to life since the earliest sound-synced pictures.

Audiences have been given a shortlist of soundtracks including the music for Mary Poppins, Psycho, Star Wars and The Third Man. The list was compiled by a panel that includes BBC Radio 3’s Matthew Sweet, BBC Radio 4’s Francine Stock and conductor Robert Ziegler.

Sound of Cinema starts with Neil Brand’s three-part series, Sound of Cinema: The Music That Made The Movies, which begins today, Thursday 12 September, on BBC Four at 9pm. There will be programmes on Radio 3, BBC Four, BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Asian Network.

The vote closes at midnight on Friday 20 September. The top track will be announced on Friday 27 September and performed live on BBC Radio 3 by the BBC Concert Orchestra. Vote now at bbc.co.uk/soundofcinema.
