Puccini/Mozart

Inbal captures the balance between lyrical expressiveness and operatic tendencies in the Messa di Gloria, which Puccini wrote when he was just 20. Werner Hollweg, despite some forced tone, is suitably operatic in the Gloria, while Barry McDaniel is sweeter in the Benedictus. The coupling is a beautiful account of Mozart’s Laudate dominum, with Kiri Te Kanawa the soprano soloist. Nicholas Rast
