Stravinsky: Les noces; L'histoire du soldat (suite); In memoriam Dylan Thomas

A fairly mixed bag of Czech radio performances, including a sparkling Soldier’s Tale by the Boston players, and a vivacious, if sometimes untidy Les noces, briskly directed by Kosler. Of the smaller pieces, Pribaoutki has inexplicably lost the first of its four songs, but is, for the rest, attractively sung byMarie Mrázová, who also turns in a richly expressive, though not immaculate Berceuses du chat. The serial pieces are adequately but less interestingly done. Variable recordings, as you would expect. A useful but defective disc. Stephen Walsh
