Weber: Piano Concerto No.1; Piano Concerto No. 2; Konzertstück in F minor

Followers of the Romantic Piano Concerto series will have to listen attentively to avoid the twenty or so concertos already recorded merging into the memory as one vast outpouring of glittering virtuosity. These are the earliest concertos represented so far (1810 and 1812) and, as you might expect, they are leaner and more classically inclined. Romantic they are, too (of course), particularly in the luscious slow movements, but not as immediately memorable as some of the earlier recordings in this admirable project. Christopher Lambton
