BBC Proms: Gorecki, Vaughan Williams and Tchaikovsky
Hear the BBC Symphony Orchestra perform a programme of Polish, British and Russian works
Osmo Vänskä conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a programme that concludes the BBC Proms's focus on Polish music. In Henryk Górecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, the three Polish texts are sung by BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, soprano Ruby Hughes (left).
The second half features another New Generation Artist, as mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston sings in the premiere of Anthony Payne’s orchestration of Vaughan Williams's Four Last Songs.
The concert concludes with the penultimate installment of this summer’s cycle of Tchaikovsky symphonic works with his Symphony No. 6 in B minor, the 'Pathétique'.
