The BBC Proms: Sibelius, Delius and Grieg
John Storgårds conducts the BBC Philharmonic in a Nordic-inspired Prom
John Storgårds conducts the BBC Philharmonic in a Nordic-inspired Prom, his first as principal guest conductor of this orchestra. Two Sibelius symphonies frame the concert, which starts with the Sixth Symphony in D minor, and ends with the Third Symphony in C major. Delius's 150th anniversary is celebrated with a performance of his baritone and orchestral work Cynara, tonight starring Roderick Williams. Following this, Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor is performed by Steven Osborne. The second half of the concert includes the UK premiere of Symphony No. 7 by Per Nørgård, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year.
