Sean Rafferty introduces a series of Nordic concerts as part of the annual festival
Sean Rafferty introduces a series of four lunchtime concerts on BBC Radio 3 for the Belfast Music Society International Festival, taking place in the Great Hall at Queen’s University.
Running over the course of four days, this year’s theme showcases both music and musicians from northern lands. So expect music from the likes of Nordic composers Grieg and Sibelius, as well as chamber works by composers from further afield, including Janácek and Smetana. The series concludes with a highly personal work by Smetana. His Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 15 was composed after the death of the Smetana’s elder daughter in 1855.
