Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra live in concert
Live at the Lighthouse, Poole
Kirill Karabits conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in music by Britten, Shostakovich and Prokofiev.
The concert opens with Britten’s light-hearted Canadian Carnival, which was inspired by a visit to Toronto in 1939. Following that is Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 – ‘a symphony for solo violin and orchestra’ – featuring soloist James Ehnes.
Finally, the orchestra presents Prokofiev’s Seventh Symphony. Written when the composer returned to Russia from the West in 1933, it is a rich and lyrical work. The concert will be broadcast live from the Lighthouse Arts Centre in Poole.
