Matthias Pintscher conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in music by Weber, Lutosławski, Johann Strauss II and Beethoven.

The concert opens with Weber’s Invitation to the Dance, after which Johannes Moser joins the orchestra to perform Lutosławski’s Cello Concerto. The piece grows from a single cello line and builds into a dual between the soloist and orchestra.

Strauss’s Die Fledermaus overture opens the second half of the concert before the orchestra embarks on Beethoven’s Seventh symphony. Deemed as ‘fit for a mad-house’ by contemporary critics, the Symphony is one of Beethoven’s most original works and is famed for its lyrical second movement, which is often performed separately.
