Composer of the Week: Claude Debussy
Donald Macleod reveals Debussy’s early talent as a pianist
Claude Debussy showed an aptitude in music from a very young age and entered the Paris conservatoire at just ten years old. Despite being a talented pianist as child, it wasn't until later that Debussy consolidated his distinctive compositional style. In programmes throughout the week Macleod will explore Debussy’s role in revolutionising the opera house and concert hall; the influence of parenthood on his music; and the importance of the composer’s piano works.
