Coinciding nicely with this week’s Free Download of Scriabin’s Poème tragique, BBC Radio 3’s Composer of the Week programme follows the life and career of the Russian pianist and composer.

As we reach the 100th anniversary of Scriabin's death, Donald Macleod explores the Russian's life, from his first piano lessons with Nikolai Zverev to his untimely end caused by septicaemia. The week’s episodes take us through his professional life, from his appointment to the Moscow Conservatory to his time spent travelling Europe, as well as discussing the effect of his personal life on his music.

The final episode in the series, broadcast on Friday, studies the works he wrote shortly before his death, several of which were left incomplete.
