This week, Donald Macleod explores the life and music of British composer William Walton. With a career spanning sixty years, Walton was one of the leading composers of his generation, composing works in a variety of genres and styles, from opera to film scores. In this five part series, Macleod looks at the many factors that contributed to Walton's career from marriage to the threat of war as well as exploring the critical reception, both good and bad, that he received throughout his career.


Each episode is repeated on BBC Radio 3 at 6:30pm.
