This week's Composer of the Week is John Williams and in his 80th birthday year the film composer talks exclusively to BBC Radio 3 about his incredible career. His iconic scores for films including Star Wars, E.T., Schindler’s List and the Harry Potter franchise – aside from adding an invaluable dimension to the cinematic experience for audiences worldwide – are famous and popular in their own right.

Williams’s relationship with director Steven Spielberg will of course be discussed and throughout the week more than four hours of music spanning his career can be heard.

The series no only covers film but will look at Williams’s career in jazz and the concert hall, as well as looking back to his earlier compositions inspired by the likes of Stravinsky, Bernstein and Tippett.
