When international contralto Kathleen Ferrier died from breast cancer aged just 32 the music world was shocked, having recieved no news of her illness before this.

In her 14-year career, Ferrier worked with the likes of Benjamin Britten, Sir John Barbirolli and Bruno Walter, performing at Glyndebourne, Covent Garden and Carnegie Hall.

With contributions from Janet Baker, George Christie and Evelyn Barbirolli, BBC Four presents a portrait of her life.
