The inspirational story of the only symphony orchestra in Central Africa.
L'Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste of the Democratic Republic of Congo is the only symphony orchestra in Central Africa. This documentary follows the rehearsals of an orchestra whose members survive war and hardship as part of their daily lives. The musicians, who have to play on make-shift instruments, are preparing an ambitious programme that includes Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Orff’s Carmina Burana for a concert to celebrate the country’s independence. They work long hours for very little pay in their jobs, but never fail to attend rehearsals. The programme reveals the power of music to bring hope to people in diverse countries.
