Live In Concert: The Sixteen’s Choral Pilgrimage – The Queen of Heaven
Live from Ealing Abbey
On their 2013 pilgrimage, Harry Christophers and The Sixteen explore the musical evolution of Allegri’s Miserere, famously written out from memory by Mozart and transcribed by both Mendelssohn and Liszt.
In tonight’s concert the work is performed alongside a setting of the same text by James MacMillan as well as other works by MacMillan and Palestrina, including excerpts of his Regina caeli mass.
During the interval an orchestral version of Liszt’s Évocation à la Chapelle Sixtine, performed by Orchester Wiener Akademie and Martin Haselböck, pays homage to the Miserere.
