Music Feature: The Rite of Spring
Find out more about the impact Stravinsky’s work had on the world of dance
Stravinsky’s landmark The Rite of Spring was first performed 100 years ago this year. But the work still has the power to shock audiences.
In this music feature, dance critic Stephanie Jordan traces the influence of Stravinsky’s work and Vaslav Nijinsky’s choreography on today’s choreographers.
The feature includes interviews with Akram Khan (right) and Mark Morris, who are both choreographing new interpretations of the Rite.
Jordan also talks to Deborah Bull who danced the part of the Chosen Maiden, and conductor Marin Alsop, who talks about the physical demands of conducting the famous piece.
