Early music pioneer Nikolaus Harnoncourt
Hear conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt in this week’s edition of Music Matters, presented by Suzy Klein. A pioneer in the world of period performance, Harnoncourt has developed classical, baroque and early music practice and become one of the great musical figures of the 20th and 21st centuries. In recent years he has broadened his repertoire to include composers like George Gershwin, recording Porgy and Bess in 2009. His conducting has been witnessed by millions in performances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras, but interviews with the star are rare.
