One To One with Vladimir Ashkenazy
Olivia O’Leary in conversation with Vladimir Ashkenazy
In the first programme of a new series of One to One Olivia O’Leary meets pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy. A great artist, Ashkenazy describes the impact of growing older on his art. At 75 he still performs internationally and conducts both the Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
But in a candid discussion he reveals fears of one day being seen as an ‘older’ conductor who can only generate a responses from an orchestras through legacy. The pianist also discusses his decision to leave Russia in the 1960s and focusing on conducting rather than performance.
