The Italian orchestra performs works by Verdi and Tchaikovsky at the BBC Proms
Tonight sees the debut performance of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi as it takes to the stage with a programme featuring a programme of Verdi and Tchaikovsky.
Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja joins the orchestra to celebrate Verdi’s bicentenary with a ‘feast of arias’ ahead of his appearance at Saturday’s Last Night of the Proms celebrations in Hyde Park.
The orchestra concludes the season’s Tchaikovsky Symphony cycle with the Manfred Symphony, inspired by a poem by Lord Byron. They perform under Chinese-America conductor Xian Zhang, who also makes her debut at the Proms tonight.
