Prom 38: Free Prom – Beethoven’s 9th Symphony
Live from the Royal Albert Hall, London
This year they are joined by the National Youth Choir, Irish Youth Chamber Choir and soloists Lisa Milne (soprano), Jennifer Johnston (mezzo-soprano), Andrew Kennedy (tenor) and Gerald Finley (baritone) for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
The evening celebrates the bicentenary of the Royal Philharmonic Society – their most famous commission being Beethoven’s Ninty – and includes the world premiere of Mark Anthony Turnage’s Frieze, which was jointly commissioned by the Society, New York Philharmonic and the BBC. It is the first ever free evening Prom. Vasily Petrenko conducts.
