Prom 46: Vaughan Williams Symphonies
Andrew Manze conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in three of Vaughan Williams’s symphonies at the Royal Albert Hall
BBC Four broadcasts Prom 46, which features three of Vaughan Williams’s symphonies composed in the 1930s and 1940s. Andrew Manze, associate guest conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony will conduct all nine of Vaughan Williams’s symphonies over the next few seasons. Manze reflects that ‘Vaughan Williams is one of those composers some people have fixed ideas about. I’m on a bit of a mission to rehabilitate him in people’s minds as an important figure in the music-making of this country.’ Tonight sees his partnership with the orchestra played out through Symphonies Nos 4, 5 & 6.
