Prom 51: Tippett, Britten & Elgar
Live from the Royal Albert Hall
In memory of Sir Colin Davis, Daniel Harding conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in a concert of works by Tippett, Britten and Elgar.
Tippett is a composer especially associated with Davis. The concert opens with his The Mask of Time – Fanfare No. 5 and also includes the energetic Concerto for Double String Orchestra.
Following that, Ian Bostridge joins the orchestra for Britten’s Les Illuminations, which sets the poetry of surrealist poet Arthur Rimbaud.
The final piece on the programme is Elgar’s majestic second symphony in E flat major.
