Proms Chamber Music 05: Holst & Birtwistle
Live from Cadogan Hall, London
Petroc Trelawny presents the fifth Chamber Music concert of this year’s Proms.
Nicholas Kok conducts The Nash Ensemble and the BBC Singers for the UK premiere of Harrison Birtwistle’s The Moth Requiem. The piece is an elegy to 12 extinct species of moths and butterflies, which are commemorated in a text setting their Latin names for female voices, three harps and alto flute.
The concert also includes Holst’s Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda (Group 3), a setting of Sanskrit words, and extracts from the Tudor Eton Choirbook.
