In 2008 the first western symphony orchestra was established in the Gulf state of Qatar. It was founded, along with a number of other projects, to promote the state’s international cultural ambitions.

Members of the orchestra, many of them European, offer their own insights into the orchestra’s role and importance.

The programme features an interview with Sheikha Mayassa Al Thani, daughter of the Emir of Qatar and leading figure in the country’s cultural activities.
