Edward Gardner conducts the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in works by Lutosławski and Sibelius.

This year is the centenary of Lutosławski’s birth and in this celebratory concert the orchestra tackles the 20th-century Polish composer’s Third Symphony along with Chantefleurs et Chantefables, an enchanted setting of children’s verse. For this, the orchestra welcomes soprano Lucy Crowe as soloist.

Also on the programme is Sibelius’s Luonnotar, which is based on Elias Lönnrot’s epic poem The Kalevala (also performed by Crowe), and his Third Symphony in C major.
