Radio 3 Live in Concert: CBSO – Vaughan Williams
Live from Symphony Hall, Birmingham
The first half of the concert opens with ‘The Wasps’ overture and also includes the beautiful Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis and The Lark Ascending.
After the interval, which features Manze performing a selection of German baroque works on the violin, Lawrence Jackson joins the orchestra to perform the formidable Job, A Masque for Dancing from the ballet of the same name. The one-act ballet was produced for the Vic-Wells Ballet in 1931 and is one of Vaughan’s Williams’s most individual works.
