Radio 3 Live in Concert: Gwilym Simcock, Trish Clowes & BBC SSO
Live from City Halls, Glasgow
An evening of original jazz compositions, improvisations and 20th-century classics performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, pianist Gwilym Simcock and saxophonist Trish Clowes.
Clark Rundell conducts the orchestra in a programme that begins with Milhaud’s jazz-inspired short ballet score La création du monde. This is followed by Gwilym Simcock’s Cumbrian Thaw and Sketch from Trish Clowes. Both musicians are former and current Radio 3 New Generation Artists respectively, and they represent the most exciting and talented young performer-composers on the jazz scene today.
After the interval the orchestra will sweep through Three Dance Epsiodes from On The Town by Bernstein before welcoming another work – Wayne’s Waltz – from Clowes. The saxophonist will join the orchestra for Gershwin’s Lullaby before the evening finishes with Simcock’s Move!.
