Radio 3 Live in Concert: Strauss’s Voice
Live from Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
The BBC Philharmonic and Hallé orchestra join forces to celebrate the music of Richard Strauss on the 150th anniversary of his birth. ‘Strauss’s Voice’ celebrates the music of the composer in various genres including lieder and larger symphonic works.
Festival Prelude kicks things off before baritones Roderick Williams and William Dazeley join the orchestra for several of Strauss’s vocal works, including Hymnus and Pilgers Morgenlied.
After the interval Nächtlichter Gang continues the exploration of song before the monumental An Alpine Symphony, Strauss’s tone poem that requires 125 players, concludes the evening.
