Sibelius: A Symphony That Burned
Has the most notorious 'lost work' in classical music been rediscovered?
Writer and broadcaster Peggy Reynolds narrates the story of Jean Sibelius's infamous Eighth Symphony. New extracts attributed to the work were discovered last year and are performed exclusively for the programme.
Reynolds visits Sibelius's home near Helsinki to explore the contested Eighth Symphony, with contributions from the great British conductor and Sibelius expert Sir Mark Elder. Newly discovered musical fragments are performed by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under John Storgårds.
