Thursday Opera Matinee: L'Elisir d'Amore
Listen to a matinee performance of Donizetti's popular comedy, recorded earlier this year at The Metropolitan Opera, New York
The shy and penniless Nemorino is in love with the beautiful Adina – but she’s more interested in the boisterous Sergeant Belcore. So when a quack doctor, Dulcamara, arrives in the small Italian village peddling all manner of potions and remedies, Nemorino asks him for a love potion – and Dulcamara is only too happy to provide the gullible lad with a useless formula. This performance, from The Metropolitan Opera, New York stars soprano Diana Damrau, tenor Juan Diego Flórez and baritone Mariusz Kwieceń.
