Composer and Principal Horn of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Nicholas Korth, introduces an exciting and unique concert:
“To mark the centenary of Benjamin Britten’s birth, the Orpheus Sinfonia – together with much-vaunted tenor Nigel Robson – perform his Simple Symphony as well as the sublime Serenade for tenor, horn and strings. I am delighted that they will also be featuring my song cycle Like Shining from Shook Foil with soprano Olivia Robinson of the BBC Singers. This work is a setting of three of Gerard Manly Hopkins’s extraordinary poems and uses natural tuning to compliment his reverent wonder at the natural world.
“Alongside this is the world premiere of my latest work, Harmoniae Naturales IV, ‘Luminescence’. Inspired by Keats’s Ode to a Nightingale, it explores further the magical world of natural tuning through the ethereal overtone singing of Rollin Rachele together with solo cello (Orpheus’s artistic director, Thomas Carroll) and tenor. I am most grateful to distinguished musician Michael Thompson for agreeing to conduct.”
- Simple Symphony
- Benjamin Britten (1913-1976)
- Like Shining from Shook Foil, for soprano and orchestra
- Nicholas Korth ()
- Harmoniae Naturales IV, 'Luminescence', for tenor, cello and orchestra (world premiere)
