We welcome two distinguished members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra: Peter Whelan, who will direct a Baroque style programme, and Rosie Staniforth who returns to play the Bach Oboe Concerto (replacing the originally programmed Mozart K314 because it aligns better with the character of the rest of the programme). Peter Whelan's musicianship is inspirational and the orchestra is particularly privileged to be performing with him in the final concert of the season.

As well as Mozart's much loved symphony in A, this programme includes a wonderful, seldom heard Mozart overture and a delightful movement from a symphony by his father, Leopold. Our principal cellist, Michael Atkinson, who is also a member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra will play the concerto in C by Haydn and we will also play a short work by Beckenham resident and RCM professor Jonathan Pitkin.
St. George’s Chamber Orchestra was founded in 2004 as the professional orchestra for the South East to give local music lovers the opportunity to hear orchestral concerts of the highest standard on their doorstep.
The orchestra is drawn from an extraordinarily talented, experienced and versatile pool of musicians, a large number of whom are past winners of prestigious awards and musical competitions in the UK and elsewhere. Many either are or have been members of the leading London orchestras and a significant number are principals in those orchestras. Many others are members of Britain’s best known chamber ensembles.
We are proud to be resident at St. George’s Church, Beckenham, which has a long, strong and respected musical heritage, and boasts one of the finest church choirs in the UK. With its spaciousness, good acoustics, and warm friendly atmosphere it is an ideal venue for a chamber orchestra.
A few comments from our audience:
'The concert was such a treat, what a programme! So lovely to hear those less-often performed pieces. Thank you.'
'Fantastic concert last night! We enjoyed it immensely. It was a real treat - such a well chosen programme and perfectly played by all.'
