Who is performing at the Last Night of the Proms?
The ‘Last Night’ is always something to look forward to, and it often sticks in the memory. Here’s a rundown of who to look out for at this year’s grand finale concert on Saturday 14 September…

This line-up for this year’s ‘Last Night of the Proms’ includes:
Jamie Barton mezzo-soprano
Born in Georgia, this dazzling American mezzo won BBC Cardiff Singer of the World in 2013
Sakari Oramo conductor
The Finnish conductor was awarded an honorary OBE in 2009 and has enjoyed tenures with orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been guest-conducting the BBC Symphony since 2011.
BBC Singers
Established in 1924, the BBC Singers were originally known as ‘The Wireless Chorus’. Past members have included Peter Pears, Sarah Connolly, Harry Christophers and Judith Bingham.
BBC Symphony Chorus
‘The Wireless Chorus’ was too small to take on larger choral works, which were performed by choirs brought in by the BBC. ‘The National Chorus’, as it was originally known, was formed in 1927.
BBC Symphony Orchestra
The principal broadcast orchestra of the BBC was established in 1930, and was the first permanent and salaried orchestra in London.
The Audience
What would the ‘Last Night’ be without audience participation? The few-thousand strong crowd in the Royal Albert Hall are usually in fine voice.
