Glyndebourne Opera is to be broadcast live on TV for the first time this summer. The world-renowned festival, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, has formed a partnership with the arts broadcaster Sky Arts for the venture.

Over the course of a month Sky Arts will show Glyndebourne operas on Sky Arts 2 and Sky Arts 2 HD, culminating in a live performance of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, directed by Annabel Arden.

This is the latest move by Glyndebourne to embrace the world of new media. In 2007 it became the first British opera company to feature in cinemas UK-wide, and was then taken further afield with viewings in North America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Glyndebourne productions are also available on DVD.
