Ann Burgess from Somerset has won the BBC Radio 3 National Carol Composition with her arrangement of Roger McGough’s Comes the Light.
Hundreds of entries were wittled down to just six finalists by a panel including composer Judith Weir and David Hill, conductor of the BBC Singers.
The BBC Singers perform the winning carol
The final decision was left up to Radio 3 listeners, who were asked to vote for their favourite after live performances of the final six carols by the BBC Singers.
Burgess read Music at Edinburgh, and studied with composer Kenneth Leighton. She is a piano teacher and Director of Music at Christ Chruch, Frome.
