Burt

British-born, in 1926, Francis Burt has lived for many years in Vienna; his music is much better known in central Europe than it is in his homeland. This austere biblical oratorio, sombre in mood and colour, may sometimes be hard-going, but the music has real integrity, and in its climactic moments a fierce dramatic power. Andrew Clements
