Pfitzner: Piano Trio in F Op. 8; Piano Trio in B flat

Pfitzner’s ambitious, overheated Op. 8 Trio (1896) is given an appropriately self-important performance. The youthful B flat work (1886), long lost and only reconstructed in 1982, plainly lacks its finale but turns out to be an unexpectedly diverting essay in neo-Mozartian opera-buffa style.
