The Polish-German Scharwenka made his name as a teacher and recitalist in Bismarck’s Berlin. His 1890s New York spell coincided with Dvorák’s. The celebrated Op. 32 Piano Concerto has already appeared on Collins, but here you can wallow in some of the most restful, tuneful chamber music imaginable, exquisitely played. Scharwenka’s salon-like themes waft a fraction beyond their due span, but the Trio makes an impressive tour de force. Roderic Dunnett
