The soloists might be ‘heavyweight’ in more senses than one (some of the recits are ‘Old Testament’ in their portentousness), but Dorati’s joy in Haydn’s inventiveness is contagious, and the operatic immediacy secures some minor miracles from the RPO. Paul Riley
