Bruckner, Beethoven

The Bruckner Ninth Symphony comes from a 1946 broadcast, and shows Walter as a more fiery and impulsive conductor in a live situation. There are some untidinesses, noticeably in the scherzo, but it’s an amazingly fresh reading from an orchestra that can’t have been familiar with the piece, enthusiastically received by an audience that can’t have been either.
