Tchaikovsky, Brahms

By comparison Erica Morini’s 1957 Tchaikovsky is a much more stolid affair, accurate in terms of intonation and articulation but lacking in charisma. The same problems prevail in her 1952 Carnegie Hall performance of the Brahms Concerto, and the harsh and muffled orchestral sound doesn’t help matters. In reality Morini’s art is far better served by the commercial recordings she made of both works for Westminster.
