The best that can be said of Jean Martin’s Mozart is that he doesn’t prettify the music. But his robust, no-nonsense approach quickly grows wearisome, especially in the stiffly phrased slow movements. With classy recordings of these sonatas in the catalogue from the likes of Brendel, Uchida, Schiff and Eschenbach, this is a disc too far. Richard Wigmore
