This is the sort of disc that Naxos does particularly well: excellent performances of a programme mixing well-known and almost unknown works, all at budget price. Idil Biret performs Rachmaninoff’s magisterial Chopin Variations and a selection of his rarely heard early piano music with tremendous flair and power. A delight. Jessica Duchen
